The Greeting and Titus’ Purpose on Crete (Titus 1:1-5)

I. Writer: Paul (1:1-3)

A. Paul’s Position

  1. Slave of God – Like Moses, David, and Elijah (Joshua 14:7, Psalm 89:3; 2 Samuel 7:5, 8; 1 Kings 10:10)
  2. Apostle of Jesus Christ – The officially designated representative of Jesus Christ (see Ephesians 2:20).

B. Paul’s Purpose

  2. Strengthen their knowledge of the truth

      • God – WHO CANNOT LIE – promised this confidence of eternal life before the ages began.
      • God has now made this known through Paul’s preaching
      • God our Savior entrusted Paul with this Gospel message

Hope defined: “Hope is a present confidence based in a certain future” (Bill Commons, retired missionary with ABWE)

B. Titus’ Power – Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior
