Be Honest with God and Yourself

One of the things I have learned from suffering in my journey with depression is the need to be real with God and yourself. I have learned this in the Psalms. Psalms 42 and 43 are good examples. The Psalmist says, “I say to God, my rock: ‘Why have you forgotten me?'” (42:9a). God despises hypocrisy so He allows us even wants us to tell Him exactly how we feel. “God, I feel abandoned by You! Life stinks!” BUT the Psalmist also preaches the truth of God’s salvation and hope to himself, “Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.” (42:5, 11; 43:5).

Lament today. Be honest with God about where you are and how you feel. Then preach the truth of the Gospel to yourself. God loves you enough that Jesus died for you to have you for Himself.
