For Your Growth in Grace – June 30, 2024

The first day of the week is called the Lord’s Day. This is to remember and celebrate the glorious truth that the Lord Jesus rose from the dead on the morning of the first day of the week (Luke 24:1). This is why the Church gathers on Sunday for corporate worship (Acts 20:7). We gather to encourage one another and be equipped for the Lord’s work. Sunday is crucial for the rest of the week’s growth and ministry.

On this Lord’s Day, I want to recommend the following resources to encourage your growth in grace and walk with the Lord.

Book Recommendations:

Articles and Podcasts:

  • “The Most Dangerous Thing a Christian Can Do” This article by Tim Challies gives the surprising number one reason people leave the church.
  • “What is covenant theology?” This is an article and video by Sinclair Ferguson from Ligonier Ministries. Sometimes the different understandings of the Bible storyline can be overwhelming. Sometimes we don’t care to listen to the viewpoint of other believers. I find concise explanations of these things incredibly helpful. This article gives a very basic explanation of Covenant Theology.
  • “Elders” by Barry Cooper on Simply Put Podcast. Cooper explains elders and their responsibility in the church.

Songs:

  • “He Calls Me Friend” by CityAlight. My family loves the music of CityAlight. As a pastor, I love how this ministry is truly committed to building up the local church. They make the lyrics and music for their songs available for no charge for church worship. You can find the lyrics and charts for this song here.
  • “Christ the Sure and Steady Anchor” by Matt Boswell and Matt Papa. This was one of the songs we sang at Dad’s funeral. It is a powerful statement of Christ’s devotion to his people.
