Election Year Reminder – Jesus Reigns

Election years can be aggravating and tiresome. In normal election years the debates can be ridiculous and embarrassing. In this election year, the debates are on a whole new level of frustrating and embarrassing. Whoever you plan to vote for, it is likely you are worn out with all the drama.

It is important that we keep an eternal perspective in this election year. There is one Sovereign over the nations and universe, and his name is Jesus. He is the One seated on the throne, high and lifted up (Isaiah 6:1). He is God’s King who has been set in Zion (Psalm 2:6). He has ascended and is seated at the Father’s own right hand, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion and every name that is named in this age and the age to come (Acts 1:9-11; Ephesians 1:20-23). He has been highly exalted by the Father and given the name above every name. Every knee will bow, and every tongue will confess (will agree with God) that Jesus Christ is Lord (Philippians 2:9-11). Every knee will bow in submission to Jesus, including the knees of kings, presidential candidates, the rich, the destitute, you, and me. Every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, including the tongues of presidents, senators, blog writers, and blog readers. While the debaters may speak nonsense and contradiction now, one day their confession will make perfect sense: Jesus Christ is Lord. And God will be glorified.

Let’s not lose perspective. Let’s not forget who the eternal King is. Be certain that you gladly bow the knee before him and confess him now. Those who find refuge in him now will rejoice on that day will all bow and confess Jesus is Lord. Those who refuse him now will weep as they confess their own condemnation.

In this election year, and for all eternity, the Lord Jesus Christ reigns.
