A Prayer Warrior Is Home

I just received word that a dear sister in Christ is now in Jesus’ presence. Miss Faye, affectionately known as Mimi, lived a long life. A life filled with joy, but a life also filled with sorrow and struggle. She was a committed follower of Christ, a fierce prayer warrior, and a dedicated encourager.

Miss Faye was a member of a small church in the Adirondacks. It was my first place of service as a full-time pastor. She always, without fail, every single time I saw her or spoke to her on the phone, told me that she was praying for me. She always had a smile on her face every time I saw her. She was always quick to offer words of encouragement.

Miss Faye was a servant. She offered her home for our family to stay when we first visited the church during candidacy. She also joyfully offered her corner lot to the church for a children’s outreach on her street. Her burden to see those children saved is still a blessing to me when it comes to mind.

Miss Faye had a wonderful sense of humor. I remember well the church’s celebration of her 85th birthday. To prove she was still as young as ever, she took off running down the hallway of the church basement. I am still impressed at how quickly she covered the distance. It brings a smile to my face as I recall it.

Miss Faye was a committed follower of Jesus Christ. She faithfully read the Bible. She daily offered prayer to the Lord on behalf of her family, her church family, her neighbors, and her young pastor. She was committed to attend church gatherings as often as she could, even when she could no longer hear the sermons. She lived a life that was transformed by the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Miss Faye was one of the smallest people I have ever met, but she was a giant. She was a giant of the faith. As such, she would blush at everything I have written about her in this post. She would not want any credit or honor for herself. She would give all credit to the Lord Jesus Christ.

With that in mind, I will do the same in closing. The Lord Jesus graciously saved Mimi from her sins, taught her in his word, grew her faith in the word and prayer, and used her for his kingdom purposes. He used her to greatly bless every life she loved.

All glory to Jesus Christ who has ransomed a people for himself through his death on the cross for our sins. All praise to our great God who takes ordinary sinners, makes them saints through faith in Christ, and uses them in ways that the world may not see but heaven records.

Our prayers are with Mimi’s family. We grieve with hope, knowing Jesus died and rose again, so he will also come again and bring his dear saints with him (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18). Jesus has said, “Surely I am coming soon.” I join with the Apostle John in saying, “Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!” (Revelation 22:20).
