“So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” – 1 Corinthians 10:31
The context of this passage regards Christian liberty and eating food that has been sacrificed to idols. The biggest question when deciding what I may do with my Christian liberty is, “Can I best glorify God in the exercise of liberty or restraint?” Even if I have freedom to do something as a Christian, I must ask myself if such action is the best means of glorifying God or not.
The statement at the end of this verse opens up the application. This matter goes beyond Christian liberty and enters into every nook and cranny of the Christian life. In matters of church order, family activity, food, drink, witness, business, education, and all areas of life, I must consider whether this action or inaction is the best way to glorify God. Whatever is most honoring to him should be my choice and the choice of Christ’s church.
What will most honor God and reflect his character in such a way that others are drawn to worship him? All things are to be done for the glory of God.
If I could only increase in this principle, then many areas of my life would care for themselves under this banner: “All for the glory of God.”
