Father,
The kings of Israel and Judah display a downward spiral. May we learn from them that unrepentant rebellion leads to further rebellion. Rebellion is a downward spiral.
Enable us to see that the root problem of the kings was not their behavior. Their evil actions were the fruit of their evil, unbelieving hearts. Their unbelief led to unfaithful behavior.
Cause us to see beyond the unfaithful kings to the Faithful King, the Lord Jesus. He has been faithful in every way these kings were not. He is faithful in every way that we cannot be. By grace turn our hearts to trust Him. By grace enable our faith to be seen by action.
