All My Days Were Written

Your eyes saw my unformed body; all my days were written in Your book and ordained for me before one of them came to be. (Psalms 139:16)

Father,

This verse blows my mind. Every one of our days were written before we existed. When we were being formed in the womb, all our days had already been written in Your book. The day of our birth was known and planned. The day of our death was known and planned.

Before our birth certificates were printed, our death certificates had been dated.

This is sobering. We are frail and small. We are helpless in every regard. Whether bedridden or running a marathon, we are completely dependent on You. In You we live and move and have our being. We have no power to sustain ourselves.

This news is also comforting for Your people. As one saint has said, “I am immortal until my work on earth is done.” Every day, every moment is known by our loving Father. Even though we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, we need not fear evil for the Good Shepherd, Jesus, is with us.
