And it came to pass, that, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, one of His disciples said unto Him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.
(Luke 11:1)
It is incredible to me that Jesus was a man of prayer. When God the Son became human, He was a man dedicated to spending time with His Father in prayer.
As I have listened to different sermons and read different books and articles on Jesus’ prayer life, something that has been said over-and-over by authors and preachers is that Jesus’ prayer life was so intriguing that the disciples wanted Him to teach them how to pray. Of all the things they could have asked, they specifically asked Him to teach them how to pray.
As I see Jesus’ prayer life and especially consider John 17, I am also drawn to say to Jesus, “Lord, teach me, my church family, and my other spiritual siblings to pray as You prayed. You have shown us by example and given us instruction in the Word, now teach us by experience. As we commit to pray, teach us how to do it aright, as we apply Your instruction and follow Your example by faith. Amen”
