The LORD’s Words Are Pure Words

“The words of the LORD are pure words, like silver refined in a furnace on the ground, purified seven times” (Psalm 12:6)

The context of this passage refers to the LORD’s vow that he will arise and place the poor in the safety for which he longs (v. 5). The LORD will keep this promise because his words are pure. Unlike the flatterer mentioned in this Psalm, the LORD’s words are pure words. There is no deception in his words. There are no impurities in his words. They are so pure that they are compared to silver purified seven times.

This means that we can count on what the LORD says. He is always dependable. He cannot lie (Titus 1:2). So, when he says that he will arise and place the needy in the safety that he longs for, that is exactly what he will do. All of God’s promises are this certain. Whether promises of care and reward or promises of retribution. The LORD means what he says and always does exactly as he says.
