Praying Psalm 23:4

“Lord, There are times that You lead us into dark valleys. There are shadows, uncertainties, dangers. There is even death in those valleys. Whether personal death, or death of loved ones.

“Enable us to remember that, even in those times, You are our Good Shepherd. You are our sufficiency. You are all that we need. We do not have to fear the shadow of death, because You have gone through that shadow before us. In doing so, You purchased us for Yourself. Now, death’s sting has been removed. Death itself cannot separate us from You.

“May You remind us, Father, that You have not abandoned us in the valley of the shadow of death. You have led us there in Your perfect plan. You will also lead us out of it in safety, home at last, in Your house forever.

“Lord Jesus, remind us that You are guarding and guiding us every step of the journey. You will never leave us nor forsake us. May Your protection and guidance comfort us in the dark valleys of this journey.

“Spirit, remind us that we do not only need Jesus’ sufficiency in bad times. Times of plenty are the gift of the Good Shepherd, and He is still the best gift. In times of little we still have all in Jesus Christ. In good days, we are still dependent on His grace alone. In times of little, we still have all in the Shepherd. Remind us that we need Jesus’ leadership and defense in good and bad times. In dark times, we need His leadership. In good times, we need Him no less.

“Father, guide us with Your Word today, whether we are in green pastures or in the valley. Guard us from physical danger and remind us that “…tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword…” cannot separate us from Your love in Christ. Remind us that “neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Give assurance of Your protection, provision, and sufficiency no matter where we are in the journey of life. Assure us that You will bring us home with You through faith in Jesus. Amen.” (Psalm 23:4, 6; Romans 8:31-39; 1 Corinthians 15:50-58; Hebrews 13:5-6; Revelation 21:1-8)
