For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. (Revelation 19:10b, ESV)
An angel spoke these words to John after telling John not to worship him but to worship God. Here, he sums up for us the central theme and heart of prophecy. It is the testimony from Jesus and about Jesus.
Some believers get fascinated with what they call prophecy. They get caught up in figuring out the timing of the end of the world. They want to use today’s headlines to convince us that some end times prophecy is being fulfilled right in front of our eyes.
They miss the point of prophecy. Prophecy’s main point is not timelines and headlines. It is not predicting the end of the world.
The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
